I've been using SC for years and I've often wondered the same thing...I have no idea why it doesn't work as one might expect.

Sounds like you need to look at the amplitude envelope.

no..unfortunately that isn't the issue. By default the sustain pedal is assigned to the release portion of the AMP env. It has a maximum value of 99 which more or less means it extends the release time by some unknown value. So..if the release is set to .1 seconds then all it does is hold the release for a period of time as defined by this 99 value but during that period of time the amplitude is constantly dropping just as it would during a long release time. If one lengthens the release time then this period of time is greater but still dropping in amplitude. If the value were infinity then one might get infinite sustain but that just isn't possible.

This function mimics the behavior of a piano, where the notes slowly fade out as if the keys were held down.

What are you trying to do? Maybe there's a workaround...

Thanks Jeff

Yes...and it does perfectly imitate a piano style release. What would be nice would be if we could have the sustain pedal hold the sustain level at one level until the pedal is released. This is how 'most' hardware synths work. With that one could keep a looped sound repeating for quite a long time..if need be.
