Default midi is getting recorded 50 mS late

1. I record a midi track of quarter notes using a midi keyboard while listening to an imported audio metronome track. (No softsynth inserted).
In other words, I play along with an audio metronome track.

2. I look at the midi track and compare with the audio metronome track in the edit window.

3. I observe that the midi notes are all about 50 mS later than the audio metronome track.

If I duplicate this setup in a different DAW (Sonar) with same keyboard, same midi interface, the midi notes are lined up as expected with the audio metronome track, with a normal human variation of +/- 5 mS.

Help! What is happening? What setting do I change to make Pro Tools midi function without timing problems?

Pro Tools 12.3.1 on a PC.

EDIT: The midi delay is related to my asio buffer size. I currently have it set to 512. if I set it to 64 the recorded midi delay is reduced proportionately.
There has got to be something to adjust to fix this. Anybody have a suggestion?

You need to put the buffer at 64 or 128 for starters. Beyond that, I have never had this issue. Maybe check preferences to see if you accidentally set a midi offset

What mbox do you have? I had to reinstall my drivers when having these weird problems. It was the only fix
