Default Relinking issue with MXF audio

Hi,

I´m having a problem with one reel. My workflow is AAF with external MXF media.

I´m upresing 16bit MXF to 24bit while doing the "copy media" option when doing the AAF import.

Problem is that there are about 10 files that PT refuses to relink. The files are 110% on my drive and have the identical file ID.

I´ve tried the following:

deleted DBs (about 20 times)
ran applejack
relinked by name only

Things I haven´t tired yet (but I´m close to doing it):

-Buy some TNT and blow up my PT rig

nothing works.

The strange thig is that ALL the cross fades between those files in the sequence are rendered out and audible so PT DOES know where the audio is and processes it.

Only the actual clips do not relink.

I´ve opened the same reel with a different cut before and it worked fine so relinking has worked before.

But now it just doesn´t.

Any further hints besides reinstalling PT 5.1.3 and doing the relinking there ?

Frank.

Doesn't manual relink work via drag and drop in the Candidates box?

PT searches about 10minutes through a single folder (where those files are) but no candidates are found.

It takes me about 1 minutes to find the files manually in the finder, BTW.

Does anyone know where to buy TNT in Berlin?

never mind.

I´ve "solved" it by copying the extracted session file from another member of the crew.

Although you have found a workaround, does the drag and drop work?

  • Select manually find files
  • select a single missing file
  • drag the according file into the Candidates box
Repeat until finished with all files.

This obviously is only for cases, when there's only few files Pro Tools is unable to relink - for whatever freaking reason.

So I tired this today. Relinked the render-sources because the mxf are 44.1 of that clip. PT accepts.
After that the files files are still off-line. Render sources-folder is gone.
Now they are off-line and no chance to relink. Repeated operation gives a message that "files are different Fs that session" (oh really?! sigh...).

I guess this feature is simply buggy.

In the Relink window do the files it's looking for have the same name, modified date and unique ID as the files you're trying to relink to?

Where can I see what modification date PT wants to see? The relink window only gives me empty collums on that data.

Name, length and ID are identical. creation and modification date is N/A. (the modification date can´t be identical anyway because I´m working on a copy of the avid media-files)

One strange thing I found is that the file PT marks off-line is an MXF file but the "Format" collumn says "wav". The original file that I´m trying to relink however shows "MXF" under format. Which is why PT says the format does´t match. But even when I de-select "match format" and relink only by name the files are not accepted. Length is identical BTW.

Frank.
