5.1 track lay out, routing, metering question
My Dangerous monitor ST-SR inputs and ouputs layout is : L R Ls Rs C LFE. I also wired my 5.1 Ward Beck metering the same way ( wich is plugged to the ouput of the Dangerous.
In protools, when i start a new session, i chose the DTS ( ProControl ) 5.1 set up because it has the same track/routing lay out but when i instantiated a Master 5.1 track the metering follows the Film/Dolby digital standard : L C R Ls Rs LFE. Is this normal ?? Quite confusing ! Any suggestions for surround set up with the above gear ?? Thanks |

Re: 5.1 track lay out, routing, metering question
My SPL controller is the same.
Protools tracklayout and internal metering will always follow film standard of LCRSLsRsLFe You need to set the I/O to match your physical outputs to L R Ls Rs C LFE which you did as DTS Page 981 of the manual will explain it. |

Re: 5.1 track lay out, routing, metering question
That's odd that PT track's meter don't reflect the I/O config. Quite confusing actually....PT tracks meter show Film standard while Procontrol show DTS ( my chosen format ).

Re: 5.1 track lay out, routing, metering question
This is the conversation I've been looking for!
I have the dangerous ST/SR without a control surface. Straight from my digi 192 i/0 to the Dangerous gear and out to my JBL 4326P 5.1 speaker setup. I really really need to figure out a few things. First, SMPTE vs FILM in the Pro Tools I/O .. Is the SMPTE standard for HD broadcast/dolby digital, pro logic II etc ? And FILM referring to just FILM layoffs? Also, according to the manual the output from the dangerous gear says it's arranged like: LF -1 RF -2 LR -3 RR -4 C -5 LFE -6 But ... FILM = LCRLsRsLfe SMPTE = LRCLFELsRs (Neither of which match the Dangerous output configuration) For broadcast audio am I using the SMPTE standard? Do I need to switch my Pro Tools i/0 to accomodate the dangerous output configuration? Also.. If I'm mixing in surround and stereo in the same Pro Tools session and have programmed the remote to treat that input as SURROUND why won't the remote for the ST/SR unit allow me to turn the SUB on AND OFF ?? The ability to toggle the sub on and off only seems available when I've chosen STEREO for that input.. Any and all comments or suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thank you all. -Yoda |
