Re: Pro Tools 2019 !
Don't be. They'll probably be trying to still show off Cloud Collaboration and track freeze all show long.

Re: Pro Tools 2019 !
I love that the only updates from AVID I've seen lately is improvements to the marketplace in the Avid Link app!

Re: Pro Tools 2019 !
If it really is late April that means 6 months since the last update. I do not count 18.12 because it was a little piece of nothing.

Re: Pro Tools 2019 !
What do you think... Is the yearly fee of 400 $ worth the price in comparsion to the big version upgrades of the past?

Re: Pro Tools 2019 !
Can't you write it off anyway? Plus side of this yearly sub is not having to think about when is the next paid upgrade going to be -- you just update your system as you wish and pay yearly. Some would say it's good to be predictable, but opinions do vary...

Re: Pro Tools 2019 !
I think, everybody is in a different situation. Some can write it off, some can´t. But you gave an interesting argument. You are safe, when you are in the plan and there is no suprise for an expensive upgrade. So i think, this is an advantage of the yearly payment.
I am still not a fan, cause paid upgrades for new features and free bug fixing updates is a good way. Second, you can buy the upgrade, if you have the money and can wait, until its possible. You are not forced to pay and can use the current version with all the free bugfix updates. The next problem is, that it is a strange feeling, when you realize, that no new features are comeing, only minor improvements and bugfixes. With the old upgrade system, Avid was forced to work hard on the software to bring a new version, which is worth the upgrade price. Now, they seem to be slow in working on Protools, cause they know, everybody is paying the 400 Dollar per year. Sry, for sarcasm. I am excited about Protools Ultimate 2019 but i have no high expectations... If they get the audio engine stable...(I mean, no disable of Hyperthreading and Turboboost and other things, Avid want)...That would be great. But should this not be normal for a Software... (Avid is great in Marketing, but i think, a stable Audio Engine and bug free Software should be free)... I mean PTU costs 2499 Dollar from the start... And if PTU 2019 is only a BIG bugfix update with new added In App Purchases..., then its too little for the yearly 400 Dollars...imo... I am excited and hope, we see more of PTU 2019 at Nab Last edited by TrackerLe; 03-28-2019 at 08:09 AM. |

Re: Pro Tools 2019 !
All a matter of perspective... I don't know if you remember the days where PT was tied to Digidesign hardware, but things were much less complicated back then.
Since V9 the software has been open for 3rd party hardware and since V11 the software has been 64bit and under performance tuning. Tweets are telling us the next release is showing us great performance increase, which we have been waiting for since 11.0.0 Creating new features while making fundamental performance tuning is pretty hard and I myself would take zero new features (since V11) if the next release delivers what is rumoured. And with that said, we have had new features constantly, while they have been tuning.
