Default Re: Pro Tools 2019 !

I pay GBP69.92 a month to use Pro Tools. I don't like it, but I pay it.

The only reason Avid charge me this much to use their software is because they can.

It's like premium membership to a club; they know that if I want to be part of the Pro Tools world enough, I'll pay the money.

I've had a few support cases with Avid that have been resolved quickly and efficiently but they haven't been about the software itself - they've been about licensing and authorisations problems etc.

One day, Avid may find that the desire to be part of the Pro Tools world is no longer appealing enough for people like me to go on paying this much money. If that happens, Avid will fail and we will all lose. Avid need to take steps to prevent this from happening. They need to find new ways to make people like me feel we're getting enough for our money.

Meanwhile, I have work to do.

It's been 111 days since the start of 2019.
  • How long is "Coming Soon?"
  • Avid why so long for Mojave compatibility?
  • Why so long for bug fixes?
  • Will we ever see new features?
  • It's almost mid-2019 and we're still using 2018.12.

Well look at the bright side, worse case scenario, at least PT 2019.12 is less than 8 months away

I mean how many AVID customers with a current support plan are actually using anything else than the free DUC that's run by the customers? Free bananas for AVID!

I wouldn't be surprised if "24/7 customer support (duc.avid.com)" shows up in the new features list with Pro Tools 2019.

I love to pay myself for my own work!

I think Avid will skip 2019. 2020-2 is nice number to get back.

Default Re: Pro Tools 2019 !

Yesterday I moved back over to Logic Pro X using UA's Apollo after 10 years of using PTs as my main DAW. I just ordered the UA TB3 card so I should get very low latency for tracking. I'm tired of waiting for PT2019 even though I just renewed my subscription back in April. I was tracking in PTs and kept running out of CPU power (iMAC Pro 10 Core 64 RAM) with 2 VIs and a few audio tracks. The software wasn't even tapping into my computer's 10 cores when I was running into CPU overload issues. Guess what, Logic Pro X is barely running at idle with the same track count. I can't believe how far behind PTs is when it comes to running on a new computer. Its like going back in time 10 years. I'll wait to see if PT2019.5 improves CPU usage, otherwise looks like I'm back on Logic Pro for the long haul. Its a shame really. I really do like PTs, it just doesn't work for me. Track freeze helps somewhat with the CPU issues, but it doesn't solve the problem. Even running at high buffer rates doesn't fix the issue.

I know Apple barely updates Logic Pro, but their latest version works very well and is completely compatible with Mojave and is optimized to run on the latest iMac Pro. All without a subscription fee.

Same situation for Windows 10 with current hardware. We're using Nuendo 7 meanwhile, no issues at all (besides it's not Pro Tools ;-)
