On startup-PT 8 shuts down my 003 rack and hangs

Hi,
When I start PT 8.0.3, it will power-off and then power-on my 003 Rack when it gets to the 'Setting Up MIDI' message during the start up process.

On my PC, I hear the sounds associated with 'lost hardware' (on power-off) and found hardware (on power-up).

After that, PT hangs and does not advance any further. I can not stop PT - even through the windows task manager. My only option is to power off my PC & reboot. After the re-boot, everything works fine & I can start PT without any problems. It's as if PT needs me to power off the PC in order to clean out something and work properly (?guessing?).

I upgraded to 8.0.3 this weekend & this has become my 'normal' startup process.

Prior to 8.0.3, I was running on 7.4 - - this did happen with 7.4 also, but only once in a while (once a month).

I haven’t experienced this issue but I did want to say; familiarize yourself with the issues associated wit 8.0.3 before you are surprised without warning. Most of us that depend on these systems for a living have gone back to 8.0.1 cs1.

Thanks Tom - yes, I have read those posts (and others!).

I'm not experiencing the white noise (thank god!).

I did want to get this issue out there, however, as I haven't seen it in any of the other posts (and it is an incredible pain to reboot just to get PT working).

I'm hoping someone may be able to assist with a resolution of this issue

Which of those controllers do you have the 003 connected to? Have you tried trashing preferences or any of the other steps in the General Troubleshooting thread?

Is the 003 turned on before you boot up the computer? If not, that could possibly cause an issue like this.

How do you have the FireWire drive connected?

The 003 Rack is connected to the Intel Firewire controller.

The 003 Rack is powered on all of the time (except when PT shuts it down during the start up process!).

How do you have the FireWire drive connected?

I'm not sure what you mean with the FireWire drive question . . .
