Time to move on from the trusty old Q6600. Anyone care to look over this list? only thing I'm keeping from the old computer is a bunch of Caviar Blacks for samples and audio.

Not sure about the RAM I picked. couldn't find any qualified 32 gig kits on Newegg. 32 gigs overkill? I suck at picking out RAM. Don't know much about Ram speed, timing.....

Not sure about the video card either. Figured I would go with something fanless and cheap. The one I picked looked like it wouldn't get in the way of to much in the case.

Not 100% on the MB. Any advantage going with one of the Asus Boards? (P9X79 or Sabertooth)?

Looks pretty good to me.

Although, you probably don't need to go that big with the PSU, just saying. Not that you can ever have too much power, but I spent $60 on mine and it still has plenty of juice to spare.

In fact, I'd go as far as saying spend a little less on the PSU, and a bit more on a modern GPU. Not that you need a lot a of video power, but a $60 DDR5 card will be a lot more future proof.

1 spot where we would differ. I always say buy the best psu you can afford and skimp on the vid card

I would also consider getting w8 instead of 7. As it will be the path going foward. Obviously not ready to go for PT yet though...... Like being stuck in a terrible state of OS purgatory!!!!

I couldn't find a fanless DDR5 Video card on Newegg. If anyone could suggest a better card than the one I listed it would be appreciated. Im going to stick with the big power supply either way and W7 for the time being.

Still not sure about the RAM and MB. I'm going to look a little closer at the Asus boards and see if I can match up the ram better. I'm not trying to cut any corners. I want this as painless as possible. A few hundred more wont kill me. As all ways any suggestions are welcome.

That vid card is cheap enough I wouldn't worry about it. I have always used similar cards since I don't use my daw for anything else. If you had to replace it in 2-3 years, no big deal.

I would think the Asus sight would have approved ram.even if its not 1 set, buy a couple sets of something that's approved to get the amount of ram you want.

new PT10 build i just did for a buddy of mine. didn't run a DVERB test but man the rig is damn fast!!! the only 'gotcha' i ran into was usin' the SSD as the OS drive on the ASUS mobo with the new UEFI bios interface. there is a bios change that has to be made in order to avoid the OS partition bein' formatted with a GUID table vs the normal MBR table. before i figured it out the OS did run normally under the GUID format but it did NOT have a drive letter associated with the OS drive when viewing it under 'computer' services...tho the C drive letter did show up under disk management...kinda weird. but once i troubleshot things all went according to plan. SUPA BAD BUILD!!! i want one...NOW!!!

What was the total for the new build?

Also for those in the know, which video cards are better for this use. I want to use a dual boot set up (via hotswap). One for video and one for audio so I want a solid middle of the road video card.

Also, has anyone here set up hotswap bays/drives before on these builds? If so what is your experience?
