Default AMD processors

I had trouble finding answers to my question on the site, but i heard a rumor that pro-tools does not work with AMD athlon processors. Im more interested in the 002 system. I was wondering if this system would work with an athlon processor. Thanks for your time

My Athlon T-Bird 1ghz did great with Pro-Tools and my new Athlon XP2000 rips it up!! In fact, from what I have seen, Athlons out perfom Pentiums hands down. Look through the Davec thread.

Not only does a AMD 2200XP+ out perform a P4, it also beats a G4933! Pro Tools loves AMD chips, go buy one NOW!

Hi halo_red
AMD and PT not only work... many of us here think they're the best combination.
You'll find them listed in Digi's Compatability Documents as well. (Link at the top.)
Also, try searching the DUC for "AMD". (Link at the top.) You'll find more than enough reading to help you catch up.

as everyone else said, they do work. The problem is their support and with digidesign thats another story.

Digi does not support athlon xp cpus. They work....sometimes VERY well. but if you call them for support no matter what the issue is, they'll immediately blame it on that.

The do support the older athlon thunderbird processors, although many people were using them WAY before digi supported them.

But yeah...it's the cheapest and the best....There aren't many things that fall into both of the categories.

This is from the WinXP Compatability page:

"Maximum Performance Guidelines
To provide full 32-track, 24-bit performance on Pro Tools LE with high edit densities and the maximum number of Plug-Ins follow these guidelines:

Intel Pentium 4 with Intel 845, Intel 850 or Intel 860 chipset, Single Processor
AMD Athlon XP or Thunderbird with pure VIA chipset, Single Processor
Performance and the number of Plug-Ins will vary from PC to PC; however, faster processor speeds produce better results"

The question, I guess to executivos, do they not "really" offer support on XP processors?
Sounds like you had problems getting help...
