The chipset on the newer Fireconnect 4300 is not compatible with Pro Tools. Do yourself a favor and get one of the approved cards. It's why they make that recommendation.

Re: Firewire Cards for 002 - With AMD 64 x2 - AM2 Socket - E
The ADS Pyro card is 64-bit compatible. It works fine in regular 32-bit PCI slots.
The SIIG card model is "PCI i/e," which actually stands for "internal/external" referring to the fact that it has 2 external FW ports and 1 internal FW port. It is a standard 32-bit PCI card, not PCI Express. SIIG does make other models that are PCIe. The 2 cards use the same TI chipset, and they both work great. The ADS card is a little cheaper, and it has 3 external ports as opposed to 2, which I think is more useful for most people. It is the one I would recommend. |
