Default free plugs

Hey everybody, I keep stumbling across sites with free plug ins of many different varieties. Does anyone have experience with any of them? Are they worth the time to download them? I've seen stereo enhancers, reverbs, synths, etc. Thanks!

As with all things, some are good, some are not.
If you're talking about VST plugs, I was a free plug whore for a period of time, downloading everything that's available.
The only two free VSTs I wound up keeping are "Spook Keys"(a theremin), and "Delay Lama" (which I keep just to amuse myself from time to time.
Of the free RTAS plugs (there are very few), I have and use the free Nomad Factory stuff, and Izotope Vinyl.
I'm hesitant to call them "free," but Steve Massey's stuff is very very cool, and he does offer unlimited demo periods, with just a few features disabled.

THanks for all the help so far. I am checking these all out as fast as I can. I also found this stereo enhancer one http://www.quikquak.com/Prod_UpStereo.html it seems like fun.

I have another question, and it is a definite newbie one. I use both protools and garageband. So which forms of each of these plugs do I want? vst, au, rtas? or should i download all the versions available and just load them all up? Thanks again to everyone on the forum

I would have to second the request for a brief explanation of the different types of plugs and which ones can be used within Pro Tools...

Thanks,

J

i really like the inspector. its a realtime analyzer. i mix on a analog 24CH Desk and put the second masterout into the digidesign 002R inputs 7/8. then create a stereo aux-track, with Analog 7/8 input and insert the inspector here. its always running permanently in every session, showing my eyes, if my ears are still in shape. really nice thing.

nice thread, ill try the stereo enhancer!

I think free version of inspector is piece of crap. It isn't precise and the screen is so muddy that you can't trust what you see. There's too much delay on what you hear and what you see. Compared to Waves PAZ (which costs 200 dollars) inspector is worth of nothing. I'd rather use no analyzer if I had to use inspector.

Here is one good free plugin for lo-fi sound: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/vinyl/
