Default CUBASE SX sucks!!! I JUST TRIED IT.

I just tried SX and it still sucks. The instrument implementation still sucks. you still have to go to a devices window to enable a virtual instrument. then you have to make a midi track and assign it to an instrument. to add a plugin, you have to go back to the instrument track. Too much bouncing around and too cumbersome.

In logic you just make a new instrument track and select the instrument. all midi and plugins are on the same track. you only need to open one window. and you can access the instrument interface right from the track. Very simple and efficient.

I dont know why anyone is considering using cubase. Logic is actually much more like protools when it comes to creating and working on tracks. you can work purely from the arrange and track windows. AND logic right now takes full advantage of the DIGI001 via direct I/O driver logic comes with.

I think you just described the long way to do everything! Its sooooo much easier than you think. Want to insert an effect select the track (in the project window) then, hey its magic! What are these eight slots on the side of page for?.. Oh my GOD! they are for insert effects. Wow! 1 whole mouse click how hard!

Its that easy for all the other things you desribed! Give SX a real go. You even said that Logic was simpler to use, NO WAY! Apart from PRo Tools, SX is the easiest DAW to use.

What´s about crumbling buttons? Does Steinjerk still have that feature too?
It was made so realistic. You clicked on a button and that thing used to fall apart just like 3D animation. Afterwards the place were the button had been before was just an empty grey nothing, just like it could have been in real life.
You needed to reboot and if you hadn´t stored before that your whole nights session would have been perdu.

Did they update that?

The SX interface puts PT to shame. Its as simple and streight forward but much more elegant and powerful.

I have been checking out Cubase SX just recently at a buddies studio. I have hated Cubase for years. I hated the GUI, and I hated the audio editing feature. However, Cubase SX is a milstone in Steinbergs history. I have seen the SX program do some impressive things. Also, being a keyboard player, I can tell you that Logic and Cubase's MIDI features are FAR more superior over Protools. Protools is very uninspiring. It just like a tape deck. Logic and Cubase provide many more resources to get the creative juices flowing. The audio editing functions are quite different in LAP and SX, and a lot of people do not like it because they are so use to the Protools "dumbed down" editing. Thats why its the industry standard. Audio engineers don't to have to use their brains that much, which isn't meant to be an insult. The engineer can focus more time on mic placement an dialing his tone. I would consider Logic and Cubase more as composition tools.
I am still not a big fan of Cubase, butI am an avid (not Avid) user of Logic Audio in conjunction with my Digidesign hardware.

el matador,
while we may not agree on some of these features, I always enjoy reading other peoples opinions and reports on the various software products.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">No it was ported from ATARI, and it did suck compared to Pro Tools.

SX is a differnt story. I layed down a sketch last night in 2 hours that would have taken me over a week to do in PT.

Another person might have been the other way around, I don't know. I just know that I like the SX interface better.

I spent all my time in PT trying to get the bit I wanted to see in the window so I could work on it. Clicking back and forth between differnt views.

Personaly I think the sound quality is a bit better, but then I am using 96kHz, and it is probably the Echo that is better and not the software.
