Default No audio output from Digi 001

Yeah yeah, I know. . .very very old news Most of you probably don't remember these beasts!

I just picked up this digi 001 to set up a second system. I have an mbox 2 mini with a G5/PT LE 8.

Anyway, the digi 001 was to upgrade an audiomedia III. I wanted all the ins and outs.

G4 Quicksilver
10.3.8
ProTools LE 6.23

The audiomedia worked great in this system

I get no audio from the 001.

- everything checks out in Digitest
- green light on, red phantom power light responds as expected
- monitor switch is in the correct position
- ProTools acts like everything is normal, no error messages, just as happy as it can be to playback the Salvation Demo.

I pulled all the PCI cards out except the 001. still no sound.

I searched here and the answerbase without any luck.

Any ideas? Did I miss something in my search?

THANKS

Are you sure it was a working unit?

Worst case the DACs are bad

THANKS FOR THE REPLY

No, I'm not 100% sure if it was a working unit. The guy I bought it from had it in storage.

I put it in another machine today, G4 AGP, and did a fresh install of Protools, this time 6.4.

Same results, every thing seems very happy. But no audio out.

Through the headphones I do hear some humming sounds when I move windows, open drop down menus.

I guess at this point I am trying to figure out if it is

-- pilot error (I am starting to think no)
-- which part is the problem - cable, card, or interface

And then figure out whether it is cost-effective to replace the bad component on ebay. Or just try to get a refund and start over.

Going to try the digital outs today. It is a little complicated to get that done - rewiring and all that. I ass-ume that if the toslink connectors on the card work ok, then the card is good. I assume if the ones on the interface don't work, then there is something up with the interface.

It also now occurs to me to check the monitor function.

Am I way off base?

The 001 has four types of out:
Line out, main out, headphones and optical.
No signal from either?

Could it be that you have to reconfig the I/O setup of the session?

Monitor mode button should be in the out position.

Hello Ben: I just finished testing the digital outs so here is what we have:

Line Out = No Audio
Main Out = No Audio
Headphones = No Audio

ADAT Out = YES
SPDIF Out = YES

====
Do either of you guys have an idea of what this means?

Oops - re I/O setup

I/O setup looks good, I am using a freshly installed copy of "Salvation Demo" to test.

Seems to me card is probably OK. Routing works properly with my ADAT interface. Cable is at least passing S/PDIF. Interface is able to put out S/PDIF.

I'm beginning to fear that Graig was right. All analogue outs not working, but digitals fine. Of course, it might be different thing.
What about input? The ADCs?

Does not look good for the inputs either.

Line level signal, fader all the way up in protools, meters barely register.

On play back a tiny amount of sound, more noise than original signal.

Waveform display is totally flat though.

====

I have $58.00 in this system.

I think the seller will refund my money since it is not working.

I also think he would give me a partial refund if I were to explain the situation and I were to keep it.

It looks like I could get a working interface for 40 to 50 from ebay.

What would you do if you were me?

Did you try any of the Mac system trouble shooting on the G4? Reset PRAM, reset open firmware (sometimes clears up strange PCI and USB issues) and PMU reset?

Hello Chuck: I had done the PRAM and PMU reset yesterday with no results.

At your suggestion I just tried the Open Firmware reset - no luck there either.
