CPTK surround interfaces?
Wondering what people are using for surround interfaces with PT9 CPTK.
002, 003, RME UFX? ENSEMBLE? Are you able to calibrate the analogue outputs to -20dbfs = 0VU or -18dbfs = 0VU? My Mboxpro is uncalibratable as far as I can tell. Digisupport please chime in if you have an info regarding Mboxpro calibration. I mean I would call Avid and ask but apparently I can't talk to them without spending $35?!? Not that I just spent over $2000 on Avid stuff or anything.. Oh and yes I used my one free call to get my DV toolkit license back after you deleted it from my account. |

Re: CPTK surround interfaces?
I use a Motu Traveler V1 with a Blue Sky Media Desk 5.1 speaker system. I have the entire set up tuned to -20dbfs = 0vu and 85dbA (according to my cheesy radio shack spl meter). I use it for student TV stuff as well as Student Film mixes, 3 of which are playing in Newport Beach Film Festival this year (tooting my own horn, really stoked on that). Done 4 films and 2 TV series (all student productions) on this set up and so far no issues.
Hope this helped.

Re: CPTK surround interfaces?
Hi Jon,
So are you able to get your line outputs on the Motu to equal 0VU when playing a -20dbfs sine wave or are you just calibrating with an SPL meter. Or both? |

Re: CPTK surround interfaces?
I use an 003 which is not calibratable and set to -14=0dbu. When I calibrate I my monitors I run -20dbfs pink noise and adjust trim on each individual monitor. Is there a difference in being able to calibrate the interface outputs too? I don't see how that makes a difference. Please explain if it does. Thanks.

Re: CPTK surround interfaces?
As I understand it. You are making up the lost output gain at your speaker amp. In an ideal situation. Your interface would be at +4 with a max of +24dbu(20db of headroom).
Yes you can calibrate this way. Is it ideal from a electronics POW.. no. |

Re: CPTK surround interfaces?
both, start with a -20 sine wave, set my meters, then use the individual channel adjustments on the blue sky to give me 85dbA
