Default I Know My Computer Can Handle This??!!

Ok Im a little freaked out here. My system lags when I am mixing, the cursor can barely keep up with my clicking, the timer doesnt move in real time and switching from the arrange page to the input page takes for ever (well maybe 5-10 seconds). I have a 1.33 GHz Power book, 768 Mb of RAM, A Lacie D2 on the 800 FW, and my 002r on the 400 fw. I have messed around with all of the Playback settings and have gotten nowhere. I have heard something about the internal buss of the 400 and 800 port being connected and that I need to get a PCIMIA card to seperate the busses, when I went to the Mac store the guy all but laughed at me and said it didnt matter. He then went off on a rant about trashing my preferences or something, when I bought this system I didnt think it would be superior or anyhting I just wanted it to be smooth, is 768 of RAM not ehough for around 12-15 tracks using only digi rack plugins? Any help for a lag-infuriated user?

Try adjusting your buffer settings and CPU usage in the "Playback Engine" under "Setups" in PT. This is explained in greater detail in the "Getting Started" guide. Also, in the Ssytem Preferences, go to energy saver, then go to the "Options" pane and set the processor performance to "highest".

good luck.

Try increasing the processor performance in your system prefs under energy saver..then its in the options tab. My G5 with 3 gigs of ram was doing the same thing as you described untill i changed that..not sure if it will help you but worth a try.

(P.S. OSX kills OS 9)
