Default Digital 192 I/O clarification.

Do I understand correctly that the built in optical can be ADAT or S/PDIF giving a total of 24 ins and outs simultaneously when combined with the ADAT I/O in the slots? If so this might be enough to make me jump.
thanks
drew

No, the 192 I/O's are 16 channel boxes. You can split those 16 ins and outs in a variety of ways but you are limited to 16 channels per 192; unless you piggy back another I/O (192, 96, 888, 1622, etc.) off the back of it.

Surely this must be an artificial limitation considering the legacy port etc. That sucks. I'm searching for a way to combine at least 22ish discrete outputs (I love mxing on my DMX) with a stereo bus from PT (plugs/editing/automation).

What about a 96I/O (8 channels) with an adat bridge (16 channels) on the legacy port? That would give me 24 right? Can a HD core card handle that?
thanks

Sure can -

The only thing to be aware of is that your adat bridge will ONLY work at 44.1 or 48. Pro Tools won't even see it if you create a 96k session.
