I'll repeat a longtime feature request for Avid - include transcoding in Pro Tools.

No brainer. Obviously they prefer DNx so make that the only codec. Receive any format Media Composer can read and transcode into DNxHD at your choice of bit rate. Include BITC. Render in the background or provide a separate applet. Simple and done.

I know Avid can figure this out. It's not like it would eat dev resources, borrow the code from MC. I have used so many options for video, like I'm sure most people here have. I can use ffmpeg from commandline, I have at least two front ends for it, I have Media Encoder and Resolve, and one or two other commercial programs. So I can get it done. But why do we have to???

For years I've been using a handful of droplets made using Apple Compressor. Drop any format of Quicktime on it, and a Prores Proxy file at 1:1, 1080, or 720 is deposited into the same folder as the source file. This works great for me, and less prone to error than MPEG Streamclip's many settings.

I'm unclear on whether PT will support ProRes on os 10.15. It's the master format most filmmakers seem to use, and I find it much easier to deal with than DNxHD, so I use it instead.

Good point that the 32-bit-pocalypse will vex us all in a million small ways, from legacy apps (long live QTpro7) to formats. But we've survived, somehow, 68K > PPC > Intel > OSX, so it's yet another great extinction in the mac ecosystem.

ProRes will always be supported on all macOS. It's also the (intermediary) format that all of Apple's "Pro" apps force recoding to.

Its Apple's, they'll support it, and they'll continue to try to push everyone else out.

Yes - Apple will continue to support ProRes. In fact it's quite a good format.

but will it continue to be supported by Pro Tools as a picture format? Or will AVID drop the codec? (I've heard nothing to suggest it will be dropped, but one starts to wonder.)
