Default ADAT Bridge Question

Hi there,

First of all can I connect an ADAT Bridge to the legacy port of my 192 and will it work with PT 7.3 ?

Is there an advantage in getting a 24 bit ADAT bridge over a 16 bit one.

Does it matter if I don't wish to use the on board audio converters ?

I'm just looking for a cheap way of getting another ADAT port into my PT rig so I can transfer 24 tracks of stuff from my Fostex D2424.

I figure that I'm just passing ones and zeroes from the optical inputs straight to my Host application.

Have I missed something ?

Cheers

- Check the 192 manual, there may be some ADAT Bridge models that don't work, but in general they do. If you want access to 16 channels instead of 8, you'll need a special "Y" connector.

If you want to pass 24 bits from your Fostex, I think you will need a 24 bit Bridge.

The Adat Briudge only has 2 output converters (I think - read that manual too, available online). All it does is pass signal from and to Adat Lightpipe devices. Also, it's pretty old, so make sure it will work with something other than an adat recorder (I don't see why not, but.....?).

See above re 16/24 bit issue.

Hi there,

Thanks for the info.
I now have the ADAT Bridge (24 Bit) and have it connected via the Y cable and when I go into Hardware setup and select the legacy port both Channels of the ADAT bridge appear.

However I can't figure out how to make these channels accessable from the main program...

i.e how do I record from the 2 ADAT bridge optical ins into PT ?

I can only find old documents relating to configuration of MIX systems , nothing about 192 i/o and PT 7

Thanks in advance...

You need to go into the IO setup and assign inputs and outputs to/from your ADAT bridge. Try the "Default" button - it will probably do what you need.

Splendid !!!

Thank you very much for that....

With an ADAT Bridge and a 192 i/0 can I use all three ADAT inputs to dump 24 tracks in one go from my multitrack Hard Disc recorder ?

Cheers

Yes, you can. Just remember to set up your sync so that the recorder clocks to the 192 i/o, or the 192 i/o clocks to your recorder.

But I only seem to have A1-16 as a choice of inputs to record from.

I can see the ADAT Bridge i/o in the i/o page now but still only seem to have A1-16 available for inputs.

How do I create more inputs I can assing the ADAT i/o to ?

Thanks for your help on this I'm sure I'm almost there now ....

Cheers
