NOVATION and PT compatibility

Hi, I'm looking at the Novation remote SL. Will the transport controls work right away, or (ugh) will I have to assign them?

Anyone know how the Novation REmote sl works with PT? Any other recommendations instead?

i have an sl25 remote compact, and it works fine under 7.4cs7(8). it behaves as a hui, transport buttons are automatically assigned, and the knobs and buttons map to pan/volume/solo/mute/arm/bank controls.
setup is pretty simple, too.

be warned, though, as of this point, i have not been able to get this unit to work with ptle8...every 10 sec or so, i get the "lost hui communication" error, rendering it unusable as a transport controller...midi keys still work fine, however.

an update:
if you install 7.4cs8, and install the novation and set it up, it works fine.
if you then uninstall 7.4, and install 8, the novation will likewise work.
however, from a fresh install of 8...i still get the "cannot contact hui" errors.

the advice on the novation website (set the id ports to u2/b2) is already the default setting on mine...so that wasn't a fix for me.
there's something else i want to try...i'll keep you posted.

well, all attempts at a workaround have failed. The only way i know to get a reliably working control25 is to install 7.4x, install the controller, verify proper operation, and then upgrade to 8. seems to work fine then. for whatever reason, it just doesn't work on a clean install of 8.x.

there's another thread on this forum regarding the remote zero sl which solves these problems. if you haven't either seen the thread yet or figured it out, here's the important parts / readers digest version.

make sure you have auto map 3

update to the latest firmware

make sure HUI control is on

select template 34 (motu dp template)

hit the template button and under host prog select "pro tools"

in pro tools itself in the midi controller window in the first controller position select HUI and use port 2 for in and out.

from there it should work like a charm !

and then any other controllers you may have can come after that but use the first spot for your novation controller and you wont have any errors. it works flawlessly for me in PT8LE.
