My talkback is switched - but I don't have to worry one way or the other depending on what I'm doing. If you're not using a switched TB, you could always mute the TB Aux.

The thing I like best about Massey's is that it mutes at a threshold as well as transport ... The drummer is talking to the other guys in the band and he says "like this?" and sometimes I'm not quick to mute the talkback and BOOM CHICK blares through the phones - Never the case w/Massey's threshold dialed in ...

I hope he has the ability to make it work with Pro Tools 11 and beyond.

My Canadian is rusty, but I think I got the gist of your post.

Obviously using an Aux as a mic input for a talkback is the easy part - Massey's TalkBack plugin on that track mutes the mic when transport is engaged and also mutes the mic when a variable volume level is exceeded ... A tremendous ear saver when someone in the room decides to beat on their instrument. Massey saw the need and created a solution.

Upgrading to 11 I find all these little things that I've added along the way that make my day easier and now they've gone *poof* ... It's an adjustment. Quite a major adjustment.

Why not rig a solution yourself? This is something I've done with SMPTE when recording to 24 track tape.
  1. create an audio track
  2. create an aux track
  3. set input of aux track to your talkback mic
  4. insert a gate plugin on the aux track
  5. generate tone on the audio track (shift-win-alt-3 will generate 1kHz at -20dB)
  6. set output of audio track to a bus of your choice
  7. set key input of the gate to that bus and engage "key listen" or whatever your plugin calls it
  8. invert the gate (some plugins have this, some don't)
  9. adjust range as low as it goes
  10. adjust threshold to somewhere below -20dB
  11. solo-safe both tracks
  12. ?
  13. Profit

Now the talkback mic will open up when the transport is parked. It will close when the transport is running, unless you somehow defeat the tone track and/or gate (which is why we solo-safe)

EDIT: If you don't have a gate with the INV setting, you can use the compressor section of the Pro Tools AAX Channel Strip instead. I know for a fact that each of you has that plugin. Settings are pretty easy, just set Ratio to 0:1, threshold to below -20 dB, set depth to "off" (all the way counter-clockwise), and then set key input to your bus. Pics below.

I asked them and actually claimed that there are quite a few ready to pay for it... This is their reply:

Howdy Fredrik,

Thanks for the request.

We shall see. We have been kickin' the idea around. :)

Cheers,

Kevin

I'd pay for Massey's - It's perfect - of course I like the previous price.

The other solutions linked to, I wasn't impressed ...

If mesaone's solution can happen with 0 ADC, that will be my goto for now.
