You need to download 10.8 from App Store and burn the installer to 8GB USB stick (there are plenty of tutorials how to do that, just google). Then start from that memory card, use disk utility to empty the drive, and install.

EDIT:
Here's the link to mountain lion in case you haven't purchased it before 10.9 came out
Thanks for the link! I am in the process of putting a machine together for 11 and 10.9 bit me when it came out. One day later I wouldn't have noticed. This helps.

At the minute I am running a Co-install of PT 10 & 11.

Anyone know the state of PT 10 and Mavericks then.

After reading someone is testing on a backup hard-drive, I am looking at completely cloning my mac and giving it a test on that. More than likely do two clones. One so I can completely revert back before I started messing around and one to test mavericks on externally.

My mac will probably end up in a bin...

Whoo that's a good question - if we are guessing (and I am) I would say yes

They have a pretty good record of keeping up with apple's silliness and o/s releases even for the past release of Pro Tools. (In this case 10)

PT 10.3.7 on 10.9 is running fine here. YMMV :)

That's weird they don't give you the option to have the past OS loaded when you order your computer - for as much money as those things are they ought to give you at least that option

Some times you could get the Apple Store to load a older version on. The qualifier was if that particular hardware came with the older version at some point. If its new or recent hardware your out of luck.

Logic X only requires 10.8.4. PT11HD is current as far as I am concerned.
