Default 5.1 bounce to disk issues.

I have upgraded to 5.1on a previously functioning G4 dual 450 OS 9.0.4. Mix+ system. Now, when performing a bounce to disk with a stereo pair (dual mono). I cannot sustain the bounce for more than 14 seconds without getting a cryptic message saying, "Bounce handler cannot keep up. Try "Convert After Bounce". Needless to say, following this advice makes no diff. The bounce handler, whoever he is, can't seem to cut it. Digi should hire someone else, though I'll admit that possibly it's the handlers working conditions. I'll accept suggestions. Anybody else have this issue?

Have you tried bouncing to a different drive?

Also, what DAE buffer size are you using?
What disk cache size?

Paul, DAE memory is 50mb, Buffer size #2, Disk cache is 512k.
I can bounce stereo (dual mono) to a different drive. but not to the same drive.
a mono file can bounce to its own drive and another drive.

Tell me why a 16 bit session bounce defaults to:

Multiple mono files
24 bit

And as soon as you change the dual to stereo interleaved, the conversion buttons become un-greyed, and you MUST select one.

So now real time bounces, take LONGER that real time.

Why did this change?

Update. I can bounce a dual mono file from the source drive to itself if I use a Seagate ST318404LW 18GB Cheetah. I cannot bounce the source to itself using a Seagate ST 173404 75 GB Cheetah. Mono single file bounces work in either case. Now get this. The 75 Gig works fine with 5.0.1. This is really turning into a hall of mirrors

I believe the help page (for the bounce dialog) and the manual explain this. Check 'em out.

Sorry for the trouble. The bounce code was totally reworked in 5.1. Hopefully we can pinpoint the problem.

Few more questions:
Is your 75G drive partitioned? If so, how big are the partitions?
What video card are you using?
Is there anything else that you're doing that could be sucking up CPU cycles during bounce?

Yes. The error message is not very helpful. Sorry about that.

wrt your trouble bouncing, do you happen to have a lot (or any) plug-in windows open?
If so, it may help to close them before bouncing.

Paul, thanks for the reply. No, I have no plug ins open. It remains a mystery.

No, the 75 gig is not partitioned. I'm using the Jeronimo 2000 dual video card, there are no plug-ins in use. There is nothing else running, just the dual mono bounce. The only difference between the 18 gig and 75 gig drives that I am aware of is that the 18 is suffixed LW, the 75 LWV. The 18 has a 4mb cache, the 75 16mb

I have two identicle work stations. The 75 gig from the other station has the same problem if put on the 5.1 machine, so it's not a defective drive. As I mentioned before, both 75's have no problem with 5.0.1. When I purchased the 75's , the salesman said, get the 16 mb version it's faster. Too fast? All Atto prefs are correct.
