how to playback fast?

hi everybody,

I just got the pro tools 11 30-days-test-version because I consider working with it in the future to produce radio features. however: I can't possibly find one of the most important tools for my work, which is PLAYBACK FAST/ in differnt speeds. basically I need to switch from a 1:1 playback to faster playbacks and back with just a few klicks on the keyboard.

So: is there any shortcut to change the playback speed? Back and forth?

Because having to go through long interviews in real-time would make this programme almost useless for me. Yet my research showed that in earlier pro tools versions this function existed. I just cannot find it on pro tools 11. is it possible that it has been removed? Anyways, I just desperately need this function.

I assume you're talking about shuttle lock mode? Control key plus number pad 1-9 will play at any of a number of speeds.

that's what I've been looking for. Seems like it's a bit more complicated with a laptop though, since I don't have a numerical keyboard. ctr + 1-9 on my mac (with a german keyboard) only let me zoom in

Is it perhaps only possible on HD?

Unfortunately, many of pro tools key commands were implemented 15 or more years ago and laptops then.

Adding a full keyboard to a laptop works great. I think you can even add just a number pad.

really? there is no other way? that'd be quite awkward, considering the immense amount of functions this programme offers...

Agreed that the missing numlock key is a drag on newer macbooks, but this can easily be remapped with iKey or Keyboard Maestro (which I use and like). Also, maybe this will work for you - it has an explicit keypad remap feature (I have no experience with it, just passing it along):

Personally, if I'm taking my laptop out for a remote (the only time I don't use the larger studio machine) I'll bring along a full size keyboard anyway, since the extra keys are pretty much essential, but maybe one of these ideas will work for you.

Also, + and - for forwards and reverse.

Again, this is all on the number pad - it's worth getting a USB number pad for laptop use : they're very small, compared to carrying a fully featured qwerty keyboard around, and have all the important transport, and memory location shortcuts you'll need, when used in conjunction with the laptop's built-in qwerty keyboard.

Biggest problem with PT speeding up playback is that it changes the pitch
Which kinda renders itself useless for me

Steinbergs Wavelab keeps same pitch while playing fast which is AWESOME

So I have to jump between 2 programs when I am dine editing and need to proof my work

Avid please let us play it fast and keep it inteligible
