Default Sync question

I just bought an ART DI/O to see if there really is a diff between the ART and Digi converters.

Question is....is it better to sync the ART to the Digi or the other way around? If I understand correctly, syncing the ART to the Digi means I'll still be using the digi pre's but if the Digi is synced to the ART, I'll be using the ART converters?

I'm using the ART for A/D with my mic and pre.

Once again, please pardon my ignorance. I'm not familiar yet with A/D, D/A, word clocks, syncing etc.

Thanks!

I guess what I'm asking is what procedure is the best with an external A/D, D/A. Not just an ART DI/O but just in general.

Your choice of clock sync doesn't affect which preamp is being used. If you have the ART plugged into the SPDIF ins of your (001?) you will be using the ART's preamp AND converters. What you are choosing for sync only affects what your system is using for it's overall clock source. If you feel (through research) that the ART has a better clock than your DIGI box then lock Digi to the ART. (that is most likely the case, though I can't say for sure because I am not familiar with that device) If it has a run of the mill clock then it matters little which is providing clock to the system ansd you can choose either. In any case, you will be getting the advantage of your new pres and converters.
