Default Matrox Dualhead cards

In an attempt to get to the bottom of my spontaneous rebooting problem with the 001 and Logic, I've decided to try a new graphics card, because it's the only component (apart from the 001) from my old system that's been carried through to the current one (new mobo, new cpu, new ram etc).

I have a Matrox G400 Dualhead and was thinking of getting a G450 or G550. I've heard that there were some stability issues with the G400, which was apparently one of the main factors in releasing the G450 so soon after.

Has anyone had this experience? Or is anyone using a different dualhead card with good results? I'm open to anything at this stage, but I definitely want another dualhead card.

Cheers

Sorry, but I don't think it's the video card. I've got a G550, and I just had another spontaneous reboot tonight. I was in PTLE, had opened a session about 5 minutes earlier and was getting ready to transfer in some analog multitrack stuff. I was over at the ANALOG deck (nowhere near the computer) when it decided to reboot.

So, try another card if you wish, but I wouldn't expect any real improvement.

i get these lockups almost once a day. i know its the g450. never happens with PT (knock on wood) but it seems to happen when i'm running winamp. its definitely the video card. my old ati was rock solid (but not dual head).

I do not have those reboots anymore. I have seperated my Video Cards IRQ from the others. After that i have never had any problems.

My Video Card is on IRQ 11 alone.

Thanks Phil and BaSsTaRd - you may just have saved me from a big letdown. So maybe Matrox cards are a bit buggy with the 001? I think I'll go looking for some alternatives. I may be able to get an Appian dualhead card to try out - expensive perhaps, but if it cures the problem...

I'll post any significant results.

Yavuz - good point about the graphics card having its own IRQ, I've always have mine set up that way too.

my g450 shares with my nic and nothing else. plus i was really disappointed with the quality of the picture. it doesn't hold a candle to my old ati radeon - too bad that one isn't dual head.... gotta check out the ati 7500/8500....

My ATI all-in-wonder dual head works great, no problems ever (sound of knocking on wood).

Not on my computer:

PIII 933MHz
Intel 815 mobo
Matrox G450 Dual Head
Two 17" LCD monitors

Never had a problem of any type with this setup. Not as powerful as the AMD XP systems but it's been very stable.
