Default Bass Amp Simulator plugin

guys,

I'm looking to plug a Bass guitar into the Mbox 2 directly and use a plugin to simualte a good bass amp (no specific make/model in mind) for recording bass lines. Has any of you done this before or could recommend a plugin.

I've see that digidesign do a guitar amp plugin (expensive !) but is there anything that would do a good bass amp simlulation.

thanks,

Check out IK Multimedia's Ampeg SVX. I think it sounds great. I do recommend that you use a good DI as well, but money is an issue.

I've just found Ampeg SVX

And apologies, I meant to post this in the Mbox2 Mac OS forum - not this one, (moderator may want to move this thread)
The Mbox2 has been a pretty solid direct input,

I'm just mailing IK's support now to find out if it's a.) macbook (intel) compatible as the docs say G4 required, b.) if you can use it without the ilok.

Thanks for the response, and I'm open to other options if you have them

I've used the Ampeg SVX plugin in Pro Tools M-Powered on my MacBook Pro without issues. I'm pretty sure it doesn't require the iLok as I know someone who uses it with his MBox2 and he doesn't have an iLok.

My personal favorite tones right now are coming from Waves GTR3, but it is pricey.

Have you looked at Izotope Trash? You can get good bass and guitar sounds with it, plus it will add other effects that you can use all over the place. Multiband distortions, multiband compression, speaker emulations, filters, etc. It includes a lot of features for the money.

I would also check eBay for the SansAmp plugin. Some great bass sounds there and you can usually find it cheap. It's good on drums and vocals, too. You'll have to buy an iLok, but I bet the plugin, iLok and iLok transfer fee will total less money than any of the other options.

Nice idea JeffC, but I think it's the ampeg plugin for me. Seems to meet my needs be very cost effective compared to the other options, perhaps not quite as versatile but should suit my needs.

Massive thanks for the quality responses.

Matt

Well,

I've finally got the software, and on paper it looks quality.

The main issue is the IK Multimedia website....it's RUBBISH

1.) I cannot find an "account creation" button to create an account to register my product
2.) this is possibly because for the past 4 days the site works about %35 of the time.

so far I've not managed to install the product properly but I can't get access to the support forumss because I can't register an account, nor can I register my product to get access.

on the left hand side of their Home page, just under 'Support', is 'Product Registration'. Follow the link, and fill in the questionnaire.
