It seems that he doesn't quite "get" threshold and ratio. Of course a compressor at any given setting will react differently to signals of different levels, that's kinda what it is supposed to do. If you just wanted a unilateral gain reduction regardless of program material, you reach for the channel fader.

He is claiming that the widely-known function of a compressor is wrong, simply because he's using emulations of "vintage" compressors that add nonlinearities and harmonics... And doesn't seem to understand that nonlinearity and harmonic distortion are functions that were added purposefully to these plug-ins, and do not disqualify them from being compressors just because they do more to the sound than compress.

I dunno. It seems kinda arrogant to me for someone to claim he's destroying myths, when the "myth" is a known function and he just has a poor understanding of it.
