Default upgrade to 8 and newer versions

Hi All,

I was running 7.1.1 and have been off the grid with regards to using PT. I am planning on updating to 8.x and getting back into the swing of things.

My question is if Avid releases a new version of PT how long does the free upgrade for buyers typically extend? So if I buy in October and they release a new version in Dec is that typically within the window to receive the free update?

I know, I know I am assuming allot (will there be a new version etc) and version 8 is quite impressive so I shouldn't worry about it, plus how does anyone really know. I guess I am looking for some historical reference with other major updates.
