Video Hardware??
Trying to edit video in Protools 7hd
I have a G5 running pt 7 I have pt8 on a separate drive but have not migrated due to 3rd party issues. when I installed pt8 I checked video option and I can import video onto video tracks but video jerky. Back to pt7 Reinstall pt7 checking video option. Load protools but see video engine failed to initialise? Try Avid video test and get msg Avid Video but there is no video hardware? Summary pt8 has video tracks and capability but video will not play without freezing pt7 no video capability and no video tracks in list. other info dual 2 Ghz powerpc G5 memory 3gb ddr scram tiger 10.4.6 PT8 leopard 10.5.5 system profiler graphics Geforce FX5200 vram 64 mb vendor nVIDIA(ox10de) other hardware 3x digi 96 io control24 two monitor screens ( i believe I have a card for dual monitors) I'm guessing I need a video card of some sort but how come it all works in PT8. forums suggest others have jerking in pt8 hence going back to pt7 thanks for any advice in advance! |

Re: Video Hardware??
you only install the Avid Video Driver if you are using Avid Video Hardware (Avid firewire Mojo)
also 8 is killing your G5 CPU, it should have never been released for PPCs and what codec is the video file (codec, not container)

Re: Video Hardware??
two types of video codec H.264, Linear PCM and H.264, AAC.
I don't use pt8 as mentioned but it does reside on a separate internal drive and I use it occasionally to open clients files and them save them as pt7 sessions.Should I remove it altogether? Another £100 wasted to digi! Still don't understand why I'm not getting the option of a video track in pt7? thanks again |

Re: Video Hardware??
Thanks I realise it's not a video editor.I did think you could run video tracks
though,I've done it. I recorded a live show to pt and it was also filmed so I just wanted to replace the camera audio with my multitrack recording and I only have iMovies which only allows nudging audio by increments of 1 frame which is not accurate enough to get the audio and video tight. Not really editing. Thought I might be able to do just this task in pt. apologies. |

Re: Video Hardware??
,,h264 is a very cpu intensive codec and a g5 is a old computer
nowadays..

Re: Video Hardware??
yes h264 is a honorable codec, especially with Pro Tools but you should be able to crate a Video Track without any thing extra
why you can't. I don't know but I'm starting to remember some OSX/QT/PT incompatibilities
