how to change meter/tempo and leave MIDI data the same?
I recorded a section in 2/2 time with a quarter-note beat of 50. I now realize that, for clarity of notation, I should have made the beat 100, still in 2/2 time. I want the music to be unchanged, but the notation to reflect twice as many bars. But when I change the beat to 100, of course all the MIDI parts go twice as fast. Is there any way I can "tell" Protools I want to change the way each bar is counted, without actually changing the music?
This is really hard to describe, I know! If anyone is sorta getting this, please reply and I'll try to explain further. |

Re: how to change meter/tempo and leave MIDI data the same?
I'm not 100% shure, I never tried it on midi and instrument racks, but I think the solution to your problem is to set the track to samples not ticks. In the edit window, every track has a tiny metronome symbol. Click it and select samples. You'll have to do it on all tracks, of course. Then change the tempo.
Added: use the "All group". Later you can change it back.

Re: how to change meter/tempo and leave MIDI data the same?
That was it, Ben, thank you!!!
Now my markers need to be changed, since they're cued to the old number of bars, and now there are twice as many (bars), since I doubled the quarter-note value. Any shortcut to do this, other than moving them all manually? |

Double click on the markers so you get the edit marker window. You have two options for time reference: absolute and bars|beats. Change it to absolute. (obviously needs to be done before changing tempo)

Re: how to change meter/tempo and leave MIDI data the same?
Great, thank you! One more question: This is probably impossible, but how about time signature changes? Any way to get them to move with the time/duration ("absolute") rather than by beats/bars?

Quote:
You could put things into grid mode and copy/paste the following time signatures further down/up though if you create an odd one (for instance 1 bar each of: 3/4, 4/4 pasted over an area which had 4/4, 4/4 you are going to get 3/4, 4/4 (for 1 beat), 4/4.) However, since you adjusted these things, the relationship should be the same and you could paste.
