TV show mixed to -18
I usually work on short form promos, ads and the like. For a recent project, I was given the full episode of a current sitcom on one of the major USA’s kid’s networks to pull sound bites from. The deliverables contained stereo mix, stereo dialogue, M&E and the 5.1 mix. I was immediately shocked by how loud it was, which prompted me to take a loudness measurement. The stereo mix came in at -18 lkfs +/-2. Is this normal, cause I’m mixing promos promoting this show targeted to -24 which is what the network’s specs request, as far as I know.
Thanks, Dan |

Re: TV show mixed to -18
Sounds like you have an online version not the broadcast version. Just knock it down 6dB and carry on.
