Default SCSI drives and PCI-based audio interfaces

Well, I recognize that several engineers use SCSI drives for audio,
and I have always heard people say SCSI drives are the better choice
if you can afford it, although I have never actually heard a technical
explanation on why SCSI drives are better. Anyway:

I have got the opportunity to install an Adaptec SCSI adapter card and
a couple of SCSI drives into my computer, and I just wonder if I would
benefit from doing that?

I mean, wouldn't Digi001 have to share PCI bus capacity with the SCSI
adapter, and by doing that gain reduced performance?

Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Trash the adaptec card IMO. I used adaptec for years but they have issues with OS X. Got an Atto card and it's smooth sailing with my ultra scsi 15k rpm cheetah drive

Adaptec is no use for Audio recording. It hogs the PCI bus no end, so there is not enough bandwidth left for the other traffic.

I know, I had the 39160 and got my audio performance killed; contstant bus errors.
digidesign suggest a ATTO SCSI Interface Card. it´s much better designed in terms of PCI payload.

Adaptec is great when NOTHING else important is on the PCI but, but not for Audio.

best

Thank you mindnoise.

I just tried the Adaptec card and my PCI bus clearly seemed to get more busy than usual.
Had some bus errors too. I think I'll stick to my ATA drives then.
