Default Pro Tools 12 Release Date & Features

Hello Folks,

Looks Like PT 12 will be released around late march 2015 or April 2015 (The Support plan we purchased cut off date has a reason somehow ....)

Features ...

Honestly I think that having no additional features might be in the end a blessing for having ""maybe"" a stable and solid Pro Tools version ... we never asked for more features anyway ... no ?

Am I the only "stand alone" user left? I have no use for the features.

You're not along. I haven't run across a single "new" feature in PT12 which interests me.

Just watched a video from NAMM that Will from SOS magazine had with Tony Cariddi and they talked a lot about PT First and PT12. Lots of talk about collaboration (nothing specific about track freeze though) and about how there's going to be an in-app purchase capability to buy stompbox models taken from the 11 Rack. As to real built-in new PT features - not so much.

Track freeze is the single biggest feature I want. If 12 doesn't have that.....

I didn't see that in the features list. Are you suggesting that it will be in PT12 when released in a couple of months? I know it's been rumored for future incarnations of PT but so have many things which never made it in, or never worked as advertised. So unless a working version of track freeze is in the initial release of PT12 then it's not an included feature, and the other stuff doesn't interest me. Certainly not worthy of a move from 11 --> 12, imo.

I almost hate to say it but I sorta hope this collaboration experiment fails hard right out of the gate. I like the concept, and it would be useful, but I know it will be clumsy and, ultimately, a major sidetrack from important areas Avid has leapfrogged past: like repairing PT11 (and 10, which many have been forced to continue to use for several very valid reasons). I'm tired of being bullied into upgrading because they've forced us to. I have over $100K in functioning Digi/Avid hardware which isn't compatible with current versions of PT because Avid refuses to even *try* to write drivers for this hardware, an attempt to force me to upgrade. So I still must use PT10 in all of our studios but two, an application which is broken.

Fool me once, shame on you -- fool me... you can't get fooled again. That's what I always say.

We don't know as they haven't been announcing it but it was on the first demo at AES months back and at Namm right now.

The support plan end date for early buyers is March 2016 NOT 2015. If there were no additional features then there's no reason for a PT12. They only do whole number versions for new features, not bug fixes.
