DAE drive too slow or fragmented. Stop playback

Hi,

My system is pretty much new:
HD2 accel, PT HD9, Macpro 8 core, 2.8Ghz, 12GB RAM. OS X 10.6.8
Working from extra internal Drive 2TB. Only 700GB in use.
Apogee Symphony i/o. 16 Analog i/o 16 ADAT i/o.

I am running a small session 22 tracks. Only 4 plugs on.
The session is cleared as in "removed" of all unused files. so very few files in the Regions folder.
All files are located in the audio files of that session.
Same with disk allocation all in the same place.
i've got dlay compensation on Long. 32 voices (1 DSP)

The playback stopped with this DAE message about drive being too slow or fragmented to read files properly.

Can't figure out why???
That kind of things happen to me with my LE system too regularly on different sessions for which i tend to blame the firewire system, running sessions from external FW drives...

but i didn't expect this to happen on my HD system too.

When i look at the Disk activity in the system usage while playing the track it jumps from 1% activity to 85, 95% and i guess stops when is maxed out.

Would this be related? what can explain such thing???

Could it be anything dodgy in the system, like a plug or something???

Help please.
I'd like to sort this out for good, sick of this DAE drive too slow issue!!

Also. i have no idea if this is related but i noticed recently that for most of the sessions i open i get this:

Some regions had invalid bounds and were adjusted or deleted

here is the details of my 2 added internal drive.
(the system runs from the HD drive, only data on the other 2 drives)
They are format OS Journaled, should they be FAT instead???

i did a "save copy in" of that session selecting all audio files on the second internal drive, same problem, stops playing when Disk reaches max of activity as viewed on the system usage???

FAT is for PCs. Mac OS extended (journaled) is correct.

If the problem occurs exactly the same when you copy the session to another drive its unlikely the drive itself is to blame. Have you tried disabling all your plugins to make sure one of them isn't causing it? (Hold down shift when launching the session to open it with them all inactive). Also I did once see this caused by a corrupted fade file. You could try manually deleting the fade files folder and make PT recalculate them all.

no luck with getting rid of the fades folder.

i even did a consolidate of all tracks, save copy in on the other empty internal drive...

same.

That is weird. Have you tried importing one track at a time into a brand new session to find if it's a particular track that's responsible?

yeah actually it was a PT8LE before.

i don't think that's the problem though.
i went as far as creating a new session and just importing the consolidated files. Still the Disk does those big jumps to 90% and more while playing the track (in the system usage window).
That can't be right? reading 16 tracks of consolidated files at 44.1/24bit...

any idea?

First thing I'd want to know is, does this happen to only this session? Older sessions? Newly created sessions? You need to isolate it to this session or your rig first. Sorry if I missed that is your posts.
