RAID ATA100
Hi,
first of all if you can afford to go scsi then get it but if you are short on cash, then RAID is the answer! Go for one of the 440BX boards which have on board ATA100 team it up with a 7200rpm EIDE drive like the seagate barracuda 30GB with 2Meg cache and 8.2ms access time and your system will give you no trouble! I have just built a system for the DIGI001:- asus CUBX-E 440BX motherboard with ATA100. 2 Seagate Barracuda 30GB hard drives 7200rpm (these drives are ATA66 but ATA100 is backward compatable) I got the seagate drives because of the very quick access time (8.2ms) and the large cache buffer (2Meg). Both drives go into their own blue EIDE connector on the board so both are set to master. 1 drive for win98se & pro tool le, and the other for audio. This setup works great, I've tested just how many plugins I could get goin' at once: PIII 800Mhz with 256Meg RAM:- I got 15 plugins all working at the same time spread over 9 tracks of VERY LARGE audio .wavs! Hope this helps. Cheers, smit1_uk.
