Don't want to confuse the issue, but there's no configuring with the presonus digimax boxes. They're quite simple and sound good too. Not saying they're the best option, but don't overlook them. I have a digimax FS that does all I need it to quite well. :)

Just since no one mentioned it. You can also go really high end with something like an apogee Rosetta 800 or similar and 8 boutique preamps.

How much does a unit like that cost ? I also don't find much in the way of used stuff...any ideas? One more thing,,,I want another Macpro,,,I have a 17 now , but they are going to be dis-continued soon. Do all Macs have firewire? I'm thinking about a 15.

Well there are several high-end 8 channel adat converters. RME, Lavry, Benchmark, Prism, Burl and several other companies make them. I'll let you do the shopping.

And I'm a little confused by your Mac Pro statement. They have not been truly updated in way too long, but so far there's no solid evidence they'll be dropped. Then you mention a 17 or a 15 and that implies you're talking MacBook pro. The current i7 quad-core models should be pretty impressive. I'd personally not get the retina model, but only because it's not very "upgrade" ready.

And if you are using a Mac, I highly recommend you look into Metric Halo. They make some killer and super flexible interfaces. I have no affiliation other than owning a ULN-2 and 2882. And for what you're wanting to do a 2882 could definitely be used as a 8-channel adat expander w/pres and built in DSP. If you have any questions let me know.

The Macbook pro 17 is discontinued , I'm told by the Mac stores . So maybe a 15 would be ok... I just want another system to make sure nothing goes down at the wrong time . I don't think the retina model is what I want either . I was hoping to get a used Octopre , but seems like none available. JF

Yeah the octopre's with dynamics....sound like a great addition....to the system.....I would love to use those with Drums...

Which was my main concern with my old Beringher ADA8000....Other than not having a pad on each channel it sounded great.
