Importing wave files
I've created a simple drum and bass wave audio file using FL Studio (Fruity Loops) and have attempted to import this file into Pro Tools 6.1 for Windows so I can add guitar tracks. When I play the imported file back in Pro Tools only part of the wave file is audible (for instance, only the ride cymbal but not the snare or bass). What's the trick here? Thanks!

Re: Importing wave files
What's the format of the WAV file and how many tracks does it have? Download my Header Investigator and check the WAV file's header for the info.

Re: Importing wave files
Thanks Rail, Header Investigator returned the following parameters - Sample Rate = 44,100 HZ, Channels = 2, Resolution = 16 bit, bits per sample = 2. The wave audio file contains five tracks - 4 drum and 1 bass. Regards, Dennis

Re: Importing wave files
If it says the number of channels is 2.. then how can it contain more instruments? You want a separate mono or stereo WAV file for each instrument.

Re: Importing wave files
Ok, that makes sense, what is confusing is that when playing the .wav file using RealAudio or WinAmp it sounds all the instruments (in two channels) so I thought you could grab the whole aggregated file and upload it to a track in ProTools - that would be too simple! Thanks for providing the header file reader. Regards, Dennis

Re: Importing wave files
If "using RealAudio or WinAmp ... sounds all the instruments (in two channels)...", then you must have imported the wrong wave file(s) to Protools. By the way, assuming your 'aggregated' file is a stereo one, Protools will require that it be allowed to "Convert" a stereo file called (eg) "nnnn.wav" into two new mono files named nnnnn.L.wav and "nnnn.R.wav", which will be the files that are part of the Protools session.
