Default Pacifica & UA 2192 with MOTIF XS

Hey fellas I have some music on my motif xs that I was thinking of tracking out in protools.. Would I do this in midi or just go straight in the Pacifica and then in the UA2192.. thank you.

Midi is just data, would not transmit the audio.
Is it just a single track of music?? If so just run your outputs of the motif into line inputs of your UA.
If you have multiple passes of audio to record in, as in a pass of drums, different synth lines, etc you want on seperate tracks then you either have to sync the motif to PT via midi and pass your audio in a couple tracks at a time or record different passes of the audio in and attempt to line it up in PT. I would usually use some sort of click or similar noise at the start or end of the audio to all the tracks that way it's easy to find a sync point in when its all in PT

The only reason to put it through the Pacifica, vs. straight line in to the UA, would be if you feel that going through the Pacifica's electronics (transformers, etc.) enhance the sound in a way that you find is pleasing to you (and works well in the mix).

got ya.. Would the Pacifica would make it a lil warmer? I got to try it out I'd rather go in the D.I on the pacifica than have to go straight in the UA 2192. Its so much more convenient the way I have everything connected.

honestly to me, whether it makes it "warmer" or not is total opinion and best to try out.

no reason why your idea will not work.

And you may find it works better on some sounds than others. See how it sounds in the mix having run all the parts through it (the "stacking" effect).

Exactly, same path for everything being recorded.

Ok great.. another question when Im tracking for instance if im going to track the Kick, bass, snare, clap, high hat ect.. Im only going to use the left channel on my pacifica because the the left out on my Motif is labeled mono.. Then enable my 2 channels on the pacifica when Im tracking Strings, piano, synth, pads, because these are stereo instruments correct?

Correct. Although things like synths, pads, don't always have to be recorded in stereo. It depends partly on if you want to use the presets in the Motif exactly as they are, with effects on, etc., vs. editing the presets to have no effects, then recording them dry into Protools, and adding the effects later on when mixing, using plugins in Protools. In some cases that might be preferable so you have more flexibility later on. Or for a cohesive sound, such as sending several instruments, including the synths, through the same reverb, etc., which you can't do if you've already recorded the synths with the Motif's own reverb effect, which may sound different than any reverb plugins you have in Protools.
