Default VST HOST

Hey guys - I have a VST program that will not run in Pro Tools LE 7 - I want to use it so I was wondering if there is another program I can run in Pro Tools that will acccept VST's as plugins I can run within THAT program. ?????

There is a VST to RTAS adapter available from FXpansion:

http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=15&tab=43

I see it starting to come bundled with certain hardware accelerated plugins as a way to acheive PT compatibility, so it seems to be pretty standard. I don't know of any others.

I have used it without problems for several years. In version 1 some parameters of the VST plug-ins would be not be automatable - I don't know if that is still the case.

Hope that helps.

Thanks - I have that program and it works great - except for Spectrasonics Trilogy version 1 - and this is what I am trying to run - it will not wrap! Before I spend $300 on the RTAS version I want to see if I can find a VST host that will run as a VST or RTAS in Pro Tools. In other words, if you could put VST plugins into Reason, that would solve the problem. Geez, can you? Any programs that can be loaded into Pro Tools that they, themselves, can run VST's.

oh I see...

Ableton Live runs VST effects but won't help you with an instrument.
I have heard about something called 'VSTi Host' but never used it. It will host VST instruments and then rewire back into PT. I think it is mac only, though, and I am not sure if that is your platform of choice. Try googling it and see if it fits.

Yeah thanks TB - that one didn't fly - it really is designed for the MAC and it really only wants to run VST on the stuff that is actually tracked into IT.

I just glanced at the recent thread on Reaper and thought about your (still unresolved?) problem. It may be helpful to you. It sounds like you can host vst instruments in Reaper and then rewire back into PT. Not sure, just a thought. It's probably worth the free trial download at least.

Thanks for thinking of me! I did get Reaper and downloaded it - so far I haven't been able to get it to work but I think it will if I just keep at it. Otherwise, I guess I am spending $300.00.

I'm not sure why you would need to spend $300. If you already OWN version one, all you really need is the update to 1.2.

If you DON'T actually own version one, you really shouldn't be posting about your illegal activities in a such public forum, where everyone (including law enforcement officials) can see what you are up to.

Bottom line: buy the software that you use.

Hey Spkr, thanks for the unsolicited legal advice and recommendations.

If I could upgrade it, I would - hence, the problem.

I tried Reaper and Reaper wont recognize it so on goes the search, or, like I said, I will buy the RTAS version.

If anyone has a light-bulb moment with an idea, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Why can't you upgrade? Just curious.
