Re: Playlist comping in 2018.12
Not sure if this helps. I got this from Kenny Gioia's Groove 3 videos on comping vocals. It allows for seamless listening between comped audio and playlist audio. Setup:
1) Duplicate the original vocal track that has the playlists playlists. In Duplicate Tracks Window, deselect Active Playlists and Alternative Playlists. You just want a copy of the track without audio or playlists. 2) Rename Duplicate Track, Comp Vocals. This will be the new vocal track comprised of selections from playlists. 3) Create a new send/Aux on Comp Vocals Track and name it Sidechain. You can delete/hide the Aux track as it is not needed. You're just using the send. Set send fader level to 0 and PREFADER. 4) Insert a compressor on first insert of the original takes track. Avid DYN 3 for example. Set key input of compressor to "Sidechain" that was created and turn on side chain key in compressor. 5) Set compressor ratio as high as possible (100:1). Set attack and release to fastest/quickest settings. Set threshold as low as possible. If this is set up right, any audio on comp track will play while audio in playlist is suppressed. When audio in comp track ends, compressor will release and audio on playlist track will be heard. |
