Re: ProTools HD and 9600
Take some advice from somebody with a lot of experience upgrading old systems to work with new hardware. Some your money and time get the fastest possible G4 MAC you can. A) fast processor a 933 running RTAS plugins is like have an extra 1.5 Mix Farm cards. B) Fast 133 Mhz Bus VS 50 Mhz bus on a 9600, Protools loves a fast bus C) large sessions open faste,r protools lauches faster.
It's just simply better, If you can have you Protools system run 3 to 4 time faster with more than twice the RTAS plug-in power for 2500.00 It's a steal to use a faster G4 |

ROBERTS:
There's no doubt that it's always better to have the fastest computer on the planet, but that was not the question. Reg.: RTAS vs Mix-farm. I am the only one who can hear a RTAS plugin does not sound anything like the same plugin in TDM. It sounds not enven close. Peter clEAR production

Peterjk,
<Reg.: RTAS vs Mix-farm. I am the only one who can hear a RTAS plugin does not sound anything like the same plugin in TDM. It sounds not enven close.> Quite a bold statement. Not that I doubt your opinion for a second, but I'd love to find out about this topic myself. So could you please be a bit more specific? Which TYPE and BRAND of plug-in(s) are you referring to exactly? Please give us some pointers. I'm dying to hear the "huge" difference with my own ears. Didier |

Reg.: RTAS vs TDM
Well. A friend of mine was very surprised to hear that I was using D-Verb quite a lot. I like the simplicity of the parameters and the added "pitching things" works (blends) fine for most purposes. Well, he didn't like it. But suddenly one day I was recording some vocals on a Digi001-system. Wauv. Now I suddenly understood my friend didn't like D-Verb. It sounded nothing like the TDM version. I have never tried a AB test though. Luv to hear mo' from somebody else on this topic. Peter clEAR production
