Automation timing problem
Been having this issue for a long time, but just getting around to posting about it.
From time to time I'll do a track where I want to automate the Master Bypass of an EQ or filter on an aux channel. e.g. 10 tracks of drums, bussed to an aux, throw a FilterFreak on the aux in bypass mode. Then when the bridge (middle 8) hits, automate the FilterFreak out of bypass, then back into bypass when chorus comes back in. Problem is, the bypass automation hits out of time -- it doesn't change the bypass RIGHT on the beat, but some amount of milliseconds before or after (can't quite recall as I'm not in front of my system right now). I've been ending up just nudging the automation point till it sounds "pretty good" but very hard to get it perfect. What gives?!?!?!

Re: Automation timing problem
I noticed this too in 8. Mute automation is way off.
Try a quick test and draw in 16th note mute automation on the grid. Broken. Take the same session and open it in 7.4. Works fine.

Re: Automation timing problem
IMO, automating bypass has different problems with different plugs. For example, when I tried the same thing with Waves Low Air, I actually get an audible pop or artifact making the automation useless. But on some sessions this does not happen.
You could try using wet/dry instead of bypass. Or AudioSuite the desired section. Rubicon |

Its because you're automation the plugin on the aux and not on the audio track! the delay compensation doesn't allow for the automation position being on an aux. Disable all plugins feeding the aux and the automation will be spot on. you'll have to calculate the delay being caused by the audio tracks before they reach the aux and shift the automation that amount. For most situations a small offset isn't noticeable, but with bypass that needs to happen exactly at a specific point it is noticeable. Chris
