Default Re: Pro Tools 2019 !

so Eddie is posting in the S6 forum about a bug with eucon and especially the S6 and François is talking to Pro Tools expert saying it's delayed because of voice count struggles with their museum piece HDX.

Comforting

At least Eddie already talked about some compensation with the subscription fee, would be a cool gesture after this bungling

Meanwhile I'm sorry for S6 users because of the eucon bugs holding back the 2019 PT release, HDX users who don't get extra voice counts with their 8-year old hardware when 'vanilla'/ultimate and HD native users do get it in 2019.5, and I'm sorry for all ProTools users who still don't have 10.14 support after more than half a year because of trouble with the HDX/S6 systems. haha

I'm also sorry we are having this delay, but with that said on my system the last 2018 is working very well on Mojave so I myself can wait. Not so sure about other people that have been forced to buy new hardware that comes with unsupported OS.

Anyway, my point is I'm happy for HDX customers because they essentially get a hardware upgrade for free. So many years since introdution of HDX that everyone would have understood had Avid decided to not update the old cards' firmware but instead release a "HDX|accel" or whatever new card that could very well be just the same old design with the new firmware that provides more voices.

That is, if the rumours about the increased voice counts are true...

My live rig has been PTHD 8.1.1 ever since that version proved to be the most stable ever, combined with OSX 10.6.8 -- that combo is solid as a tank.

Protools Ultimate subscription needs to come down. $199 seems reasonable for what they are delivering and how fast. Still bugs that have been around for years. 90xx errors never fixed since 11 was introduced. Plus everything else mentioned. I see more and more clients using other DAWS.

Trashed vinyl costs something, but as for time... well, my stance on a realtime bounce is that it's quality control which you need to do anyway; so even if you could offline-cut that vinyl in one minute you would still take a listen, right? So now that you listen to it while cutting you're actually saving time as your QA is done once the vinyl is cut.

Well, perhaps not that simple, but in my workflow I take a listen to the final bounce before I'll send it away, so even a fast offline bounce is slower than listening to it real-time (and if I notice something still needs to be changed, I save even more time because I can stop the bounce where I decide it's not a keeper...)

Me too, but they're still bringing their projects to me for mixing/mastering and it's not because of my good looks

Yeah. Here too. But it used to be you would get a nice cleaned out tidy Protools session with everything in there labeled, tempo map ruler, markers. Now you get a folder with a bunch of poorly labeled files. And thats It! And yes, I know I can get a blank midi file to pull things from and make a session but the point is, Its not a standard anymore as much as its claimed to be. Its added work even when handing clients detailed delivery requirements. Oh and don't get me started on calling everything "STEMS" lol!!!
