Default SC48 Basic questions

I would have figured these would have been in the SC48 manual, but I didn't see anything about them? Can someone refer me to the page that describes these?

- What are the functions of the power button? Obviously you turn the console on with this, but what else? You are supposed to do soft power downs using the "Shut down" button on the screen. I assume you can hold the power button down to "force" a hard power off? What happens if you just push it momentarily?

- What do the reset buttons do? I assume you have to hold both of them down? Does this cause a hard reset? Does it just reset part of the console?

PS: A design recommendation: those reset buttons should be staggered vertically...not horizontally. If the back of the SC48 is in a doghouse, the wires/cables run horizontally...and if one presses against the console it can push down both reset buttons! If they were vertical, you wouldn't have as much of a chance of a single cable causing a reset! Just a thought....

Default Re: SC48 Basic questions

I don't know exact page numbers, I just know enough from experience.

The power button...used to power the desk on. In addition to using "Shutdown" from the Options>System page, you can press the power button once the console is booted. It will pop up a dialog box asking you to confirm you want to power down, just like a computer would do.

Reset button, when both of these buttons are pressed, the host computer will reboot. This is only to be used in an emergency, and luckily I have never had to do this during a show, rehearsal or performance. Knock on wood. If you have to use this option, don't worry, audio will still pass through the desk and the control surface will be in "back up mode." You can still manupulate the channels, but are limited on what you can do. This is allowed to happen because the DSP's (mix engines) are driving the audio. The host computer is doing nothing more than building the GUI for you to see. Once the console is back up, in order to leave "backup mode" you will need to reset the mix engines. This will cause audio to be interrupted. The downtime depends on how many plug-ins you have running.

I am a believer that the reset buttons should be recessed in the enclosure a bit. That would by pass more potential accidents.
