Default Cubase/Nuendo Crossgrade: ¿who is thinking of pulling the trigger?

https://www.steinberg.net/en/landing...ls_owners.html

I hate Cubase alien Transport icons... Maybe not, but...
Nuendo looks more serious.

... €1000 crossgrade without Nek ? For HD owners, €1200 for Standard?
+ €150 more for NEK?

Forget it.

https://www.steinberg.net/en/shop/bu...nsion-kit.html

Retrologue sounds like crap when compared to a real Minitaur.
http://youtu.be/mKh5FJoLCys

Also I can't find a Cubase 8.5 vs. Nuendo 7 comparison...
http://www.steinberg.net/fileadmin/f...ison_Chart.pdf

Even has forums about it:
https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=27314

When I had PTHD9.0.6
I did a test vs. Nuendo
Same audio files recorded in ProTools, imported to Nuendo,
Same plugins, same settings,
Plugins Wrapped with FXPansion VST to RTAS adapter, latest version... "For sale if anyone is interested."

There was an audible difference...
Depending on where I played the files...
But I liked more the ProTools HD9.0.6 sound...
Highs were nicer.

Now PTHD12.3.1 is even better. For Windows.

Also, around that time, cartec audio had demo files of their products, same equipments, same settings. recorded in Logic, Cubase & ProTools,
ProTools recording file was better...

I work at a multi-DAW facility, we have multiple Pro Tools and Nuendo rigs. For the record, Nuendo is my second favourite DAW.
With all that said, in the last couple of years we've been having nothing but bad experiences with Steinberg's support. All of our workstations are qualified and up to specs, yet we've experienced serious issues with Nuendo 5, 6 is much better though. The problem is we received zero positive support, only finger pointing to RME, to the workstations, etc.
So honestly, I wouldn't even thinking about pulling the trigger on this one.
These are only our experiences and I'm sure others may have very different ones. What is even more surprising to some, we received excellent support from Avid.

They've offered those crossgrades forever.

Studio one has them also, but it's just about the same when you catch a major sale....

I say major sale because everything these days is on sale all the time

From the top of my head it's about 6 Nuendo and 5 Pro Tools rig permanently. During film scoring Pro Tools tends to go up with a few more rigs. Many years back it was a Nuendo only facility.
I know it's sounds small compared to US or UK facilities, but here in Hungary, this counts as big, believe it or not. :)

I have ten Nuendo (need two more shortly) and five PT licenses. I started using sound designer, then Avid AudioVision, then transitioned to PT, started to move towards Nuendo 8-9 years ago but still use PT on jobs where I collaborate with other PT facilities.

I don't get the "Steinberg has horrible support" thing? I have never really relieved any useful support using PT from Avid ever (but I have received stellar support for our S5MC most of the time). What type of program support do you expect from a DAW maker?

I bought CBP 8 last summer, I use it for all my music composition work
I use PT for my film audio editing work
I really love Cubase, but Protools is still King when it comes to audio editing, at least for me it is
I like the conform package that comes with Nuendo and the ADR package as well
All built in which is great
I guess it all comes down to what you really need, and are comfortable with
All these DAWs are great

We had serious issues around Nuendo 5. Crashes, lost tracks, strange interruptions during recording, etc. Steinberg pointed us to RME, of course RME said it's a Nuendo problem. Then found more users who experienced the same issues, Steinberg denied it, then tried to prove that it's our fault. All in all, their behaviour and support was subpar.
I reported some bugs to Avid, their support was responsive and helpful. I do not want to bash anything here, these are my experiences.
