Default Techie Question!!

Does protools make use of the RAM to buffer audio tracks like cubase/logic does? ie The more tracks we use the more ram it requires to enable smooth playback??? I guess what I'm saying is that if I allocate more RAM to pro tools will it help lesson the load on the drives??
Thanks
