what are your basic sounds ???
the " vintage " rolands sound that way out of the box . maybe you are using the wrong basic sounds
( whatever wrong means ) ? you wont find " one " plugin that makes it sound right . if it would be that easy
i have good success with layering sounds ... try it , good luck !!!

rojos advice is a good one but its not the holy grail

If you don't want to have to work hard at it, instead of trying to invent something, for sounds, you might want to pick up a Emu MP-7 or something with some extra sound cards. There are so many great sounds in these boxes!!! But the secret ingredient for me in PT is to use Sony EQ to work the frequencies you want and cut the ones you don't.

Worked great on a hip hop session this weekend...thump you hard in the chest and slap you on the forehead at the same time...
