How to buy Pro Tools 12 from a friend?

Hello everyone, I want to buy my friend's Pro Tools 12 Perpetual License and wanted to ask how to go about this process?

Do I need to request a transfer of ownership so that it will officially be in my Avid account? Or can I just transfer his license to my own iLok via iLok License Manager?

Or will having his iLok, and access to his Avid username and password be sufficient if I don't want to go through the transfer of ownership process?

The transfer of ownership process has been known to drag out, just so you know. My 2020 license took about four weeks to finish, but that was last year in the first peak of the pandemic. It wasn't a big deal for me, I used the fully functional demo while waiting.
