Anyone use/used this bit of gear? Kyma
Looks interesting, but bloody expensive

I've heard it used, by experienced operators in other studios.

Very, very nice. However, most of the price goes into the custom hardware.

With the advent of G5's and modern apps such as Aurora and Reaktor-IV, I think that the Kyma system is becoming somewhat obsolete.

It wouldn't surprise me if they eventually offer a software-only version of the Kyma. In other words, the Kyma X running stand-alone, without the need for the Capybara box.

How much is the full system these days?

About $US6000+ , from what I can gather. Initially, I stumbled on this site, and thought it was new OSX software, but then saw the price...

But yeah, the future of faster computers may make these types of systems obsolete...sorry HD users!!

I was thinking of just purchaing the software which is just $175. If I didnt purchase any other hardware for it, would it work on my G5? I didnt see anything telling me this on the Kyma Website.
