Close session sloooow

Hi all,
One of our systems is very slow when closing sessions. Otherwise it performs fine given its age. I'm talking about 1min after clicking "Close Session", the progress dialog appears and then it closes relatively fast. During that minute, the osx is unresponsive and HD noises can be heard.
Before investigating further, has someone seen this happen and how did you resolve it?

2x2Ghz G5, OSX 10.4.11, 1,5 GB Ram
